Buying and using

How the Brunelleschi Pass works

One booked time slot for the dome, the other monuments open to you across three days.

  1. 1

    Book the dome slot

The dome is the only monument with a fixed time slot, on the first day of validity. A host meets you at Porta dei Cornacchini on the north side.
  2. 2

    Three calendar days

Validity starts at midnight on the day you choose and runs three calendar days. Each other monument is open to you once in that window, without a booking.
  3. 3

    463 steps and an ID

There is no lift to the top of the dome. Bring an ID, arrive within five minutes of your time slot and leave large bags at the store in Piazza Duomo 38/r.

Weighing it up

What speaks against the Brunelleschi Pass, and who it is for

Against it: the climb is 463 steps in a narrow shell with no lift, an ID is checked since March 2025 and visitors under 18 may only go up with an adult, so the pass is wasted on anyone who cannot manage the stairs. The dome slot is fixed and the reservation can neither be changed nor cancelled. The mosaics of the Baptistery are hidden behind restoration work for now, the museum closes on the first Tuesday of every month, and on 25 December, 1 January and Easter Sunday the whole complex stays shut. This booking is the premium priority-entry version: the Opera del Duomo sells the same pass more cheaply in its own ticket shop, and what the higher price buys here is the priority time slot at the dome, a host at the meeting point and a booking in your own language and currency.

For whom: visitors who want the climb with a settled slot and a short wait at the door, and who will use Giotto's bell tower, the Baptistery, the museum and Santa Reparata within the same three days. The bell tower has 414 steps of its own and needs no reservation, so the pass carries two climbs rather than one.

Alternatives: the Opera also issues a Giotto Pass without the dome and a Ghiberti Pass for the Baptistery, the museum and Santa Reparata, neither of them with the climb. If the galleries matter more than the cathedral, the Uffizi & Accademia Pass covers the two big museums and the city's Firenzecard covers the wider museum circuit, though neither touches the Duomo complex. The comparison sets the passes side by side, the prices page shows the ladders, the attractions page lists which pass opens which door, and the overview of the Florence passes is the place to start.

FAQ

Questions about the Duomo pass

Short answers on the climb, validity and the cathedral, everything else on the FAQ page.

Do I need a ticket for the cathedral itself? +

No. Entry to the cathedral is free and needs neither a pass nor a reservation, though the queue outside can be long. The pass covers the dome, Giotto's bell tower, the Baptistery, the Opera del Duomo Museum and Santa Reparata, which are not sold individually.

Does any other Florence pass include the dome? +

Not outright. The Firenzecard covers the municipal museum circuit but not the Duomo complex, and the Florence Pass carries the climb only as the premium option of its cathedral module, at a surcharge. The overview shows who covers what.

Can I move the time slot for the dome? +

No. The reservation cannot be changed, cancelled or refunded. Five minutes of delay are tolerated at the meeting point, after that the climb is gone. Visitors under 18 go up with an adult, and large bags belong in the store at Piazza Duomo 38/r.
