Buying and using

How the Firenzecard works

Bought for your trip, activated at the first museum, then the 72 hours run.

  1. 1

    Card or app

You either collect the physical card with its kit or carry the digital one in the Firenzecard app, which needs iOS 16 or Android 11. Both open the same circuit.
  2. 2

72 hours from the first entry

The clock starts at the museum you enter first, not when you buy. Plan the two big galleries early and keep the smaller houses for the tail of the window.
  3. 3

    Book the Uffizi slot

The Uffizi Gallery needs a time slot, which the app books at no extra cost. Museum reservations are part of the card rather than something you pay on top.

Weighing it up

What speaks against the Firenzecard, and who it is for

Against it: the Duomo complex is outside the card. Brunelleschi's dome, Giotto's bell tower, the Baptistery and the Opera del Duomo Museum belong to the Opera del Duomo and need one of its own passes. Public transport is not included either, and neither is a hop-on hop-off bus. 72 hours is a short window for a circuit that large, and the clock does not stop for a closing day or a rainy afternoon. The city sells the card more cheaply in its own shop; booking it here buys the card in your own language and currency. If the window runs out, a restart adds another 48 hours within twelve months for museums you have not yet visited, against a surcharge and only for the digital card.

For whom: museum-minded visitors with three full days who want the Uffizi Gallery, the Accademia Gallery, Palazzo Vecchio, the Pitti Palace, the Bargello and the smaller houses without buying a ticket for each, and families, because members under 18 are carried on an adult's card at no cost. Special exhibitions are in, and the Uffizi slot costs nothing extra.

Alternatives: for the climb to the dome you need the Brunelleschi Pass, whatever else you hold. If only the two big galleries are on the list, the Uffizi & Accademia Pass is the narrower booking, and the Florence City Pass trades museum breadth for a guided city tour, a bike tour and entries in Siena. The comparison sets them side by side, the prices page shows the ladders, the attractions page lists which pass opens which door, and the overview of the Florence passes is the place to start.

FAQ

Questions about the Firenzecard

Short answers on validity, the Duomo and children, everything else on the FAQ page.

Is the Duomo included in the Firenzecard? +

No. Brunelleschi's dome, Giotto's bell tower, the Baptistery, the Opera del Duomo Museum and Santa Reparata belong to the Opera del Duomo and are sold only in its own passes, the Brunelleschi Pass among them. The cathedral itself is free to enter.

Does the card cover buses and the tram? +

No. Public transport is not part of the card, and no Florence pass includes it. The old centre is walkable; the tram matters mainly for the airport. Details on the public transport page.

Do children need their own card? +

No. Family members under 18 are entered free alongside an adult who holds the card, and the state museums admit under-18s free anyway. One card per adult is what a family needs.
